Abstract: Specific properties and working parameters of threshing and cleaning in two-stage harvesting for rapeseed in south China were explored. The optimal type of threshing and cleaning units, and two component reasonable working parameters were reached by orthogonal experiments of threshing and cleaning, which also offered reference for designing and using the rapeseed pickup-combine. Test results indicated: optimal parameter group of threshing separate smuggle loss rate were feed quantity, 1.6kg/s; roller rotating speed, 750r/min; threshing interval, 15mm; and 6-pole spike-tooth cylinder. Primary and secondary factors of threshing separate smuggle loss rate were cylinder type, feed quantity, threshing interval and roller rotating speed. The optimal parametric group of least cleaning loss rate and least impurity rate were scale sieve with opening 10mm; vibration sieve crank rotating speed, 260r/min; centrifugal blower rotating speed, 860r/min; centrifugal blower tilt angle, 15°. Primary and secondary factors by fuzzy analysis of synthesize evaluation were centrifugal blower tilt angle, vibration sieve crank rotating speed, vibration sieve type and centrifugal blower rotating.

Abstract: The dual-plates differential impact-based grain flow sensor of yield monitor systems was designed. The static force characteristics of sensor were experimental tested. Results indicated that the output signal of the grain flow sensor had nothing to do with the location of the point of application of the external force, and the linearity of the sensor could meet the application requirements. During the range of grain flow was 0-2kg/s, characteristic of the flow sensor was tested through laboratory and field. The sensor output voltage signal of the coefficient was gotten. Calibration coefficient K was determined through test. The error of grain flow sensor was 3.8% for rice harvester.

Abstract: Forced-air precooling to the egg fresh keeping and storage was applied, and the effect of cold air temperature, ventilation velocity, and the egg weight in the precooling process was investigated. The results showed that the lower the cold air temperature was, the quicker the precooling velocity would be. The appropriate precooling temperature was 0°C. Also, the precooling velocity increased as the ventilation velocity increased in certain extent. A high precooling efficiency could be achieved when the ventilation velocity was 1. 67m/s. The precooling velocity reduced when the egg was bigger. So the eggs should be divided by the weight first, and then precooled according to the levels to keep the consistent precooling velocity. The best effective precooling period was within 60 min.

Abstract: Three-point bending breaking force for ventral and dorsal side of brown rice was measured individually. Average kernel breaking force (the force required to break a brown rice kernel in three-point bending) between ventral side and dorsal side were different, and kernel-to-kernel breaking force distributions were also quite different. The breaking force distribution for ventral side tended to be multi-peak, but that for dorsal side tended to be single-peak. The bending breaking strength and elastics modulus for ventral side were more than those for dorsal side, but the fracture energy for ventral side was less than that for dorsal side. On the other hand, the rice processing quality indexes were correlated to the mechanical properties of rice.

Abstract: In the factory rice cell seedling, dropping process of rice seed metering device affects the seeding performance. To meet the requirement of the rice seed metering device, rice seed movement discipline and mechanism in the dropping process were analyzed theoretically. Dropping process was divided three parts: timely dropping process, delayed dropping process, and enforcement dropping process. The relationship between cell tray velocity and the parameters of seed metering device was derived. Dropping process was analyzed based on high-speed photography technology. Analysis of dropping process provided a basis for the establishment of seed metering device design theory and optimal design. The relationship between the type hole length and the parameters of seed metering device was established. Analysis showed that rational parameters of metering device could ensure seed won't have wall-type collision with the other side.

Abstract: Snow lotus samples from four different geographical origins (Qinghai, Tibet, Yunnan and Sinkiang) were studied. K-nearest neighbors (KNN) algorithm was applied to build discriminating model as a pattern recognition method. The parameter K of the KNN model and the number of principal component factors (PCs) were optimized. The spectra were preprocessed by four different spectral preprocessing methods of standard normal variate (SNV), multiplieative scatter correction(MSC), first derivative and second derivative, and their effects on results of KNN models were compared. Experimental results showed that the optimal model was obtained with PCs 5 and K=3 after SNV spectral preprocessing, and the discriminating rates were all 100% in cross-validation and prediction. The work demonstrated that NIR spectroscopy technique with KNN method could be successfully applied to discriminate snow lotus from different geographical origins.

Abstract: The effect of preheating was investigated in a straight-tube shape micro combustor. Performances of combustor were compared under conditions with different preheating temperature. The flow rates of the fuel feed amount were 0.12, 0.24, 0.36L/min, respectively. The preheating temperatures were environmental temperature (23°C), 250°C, 500°C, respectively. Experimental results showed that with environmental temperature and 0.12L/min, the stability limit was 0.339-3.639. While the preheating temperature increased to 250°C, the stability limit extended to 0.317-4.304. At the preheating temperature of 500°C, the stability limit was 0.453-1.706. The temperature distribution on the combustor wall was measured, which was combined with numeric simulation to investigate the combustion process in the combustor. Simulation results indicated that the peak temperature in the reaction region increased with preheating temperature. At 0.24L/min and stoichiometry, while the preheating temperature increased from environmental temperature to 500°C, the peak temperature increased from 1890 to 2013K. It proved that the proper preheating could increase the reaction temperature, thus inhibited thermal extinction.

Abstract: A cotton recognition method was proposed based on Hough transform in order to recognize the hidden cotton. For reducing the computation complexity, first of all, the image was segmented by R-B channel in RGB color model. The minimum external rectangle was obtained by labeling its region. Then, according to the contour information from the boundary trace, the randomized Hough transform was realized. The experimental results showed that the proposed recognition method presented good performance even the cotton contour loss rated up to 50%. It met the requirements of the precision and rating for the cotton-harvesting-robot.

Abstract: Water distribution, discharge-pressure relation and rotation nonuniformity of pop-up sprinklers during application of reclaimed sewage effluent and groundwater were tested to investigate the effects of water quality on sprinkler performance. The overlapped sprinkler uniformity coefficients were also determined from the radial water distribution of an individual sprinkler. Three types of pop-up sprinklers, DPXHP sprinkler, DPXTS sprinkler (recordable angle adjusting) and Toro V1550 sprinkler, were used and sprinkler performance were measured after the operation of 447h for both sewage effluent and groundwater application. A significant influence of water quality on sprinkler performance was found. Sewage effluent application resulted in 3.4%-4.7% and 2.7%-9.0% reduction in sprinkler discharge and coverage radius, respectively; while sprinklers applying groundwater produced a 0.03%-0.09% reduction in discharge and a 2.5%-3.9% reduction in radius. Sprinkler rotation nonuniformity, represented by a maximum rotation deviation, increased after a continuously operation of 447h, but no significant influence of water quality on the rotation nonuniformity was observed. The influence of water quality on Christiansen uniformity coefficient (CU) was also insignificant.

Abstract: Compression experimental results on longan fruit and pit indicated that the forcedeformation curves of longan fruit compression qualified with the second order quadratic equation and the elastic modulus ranged from 0.90MPa to 0.95MPa. The forcedeformation curves of longan pit compression were nearly linear and the elastic modulus was roughly 40MPa. The transversal and longitudinal stiffness of longan fruit and pit were separately similar. Under different compression rates, longan deformation of broken-hull decreased along with the increase of compression rates. The fruit skin tensile tests were conducted that stress-strain curves and the relationships between elastic modulus and strains were determined. Experimental results indicated that longan can be regarded as isotropy material.

Abstract: For multi-attributes decision making problems with uncertain interval number, a new evaluation method for scheme selection based on possibility degree and information axiom was proposed. Firstly, for different type of the evaluation index, the maximum of the upper bound and the minimum of the lower bound of interval numbers were determined. Then the probability of success satisfying the functional requirement was calculated by identifying the system range and common range of each index, and the information content for each interval number and each scheme were also computed. Finally, the alternatives were ranking according with each alternative's total information content, so the optimal scheme could be selected. For decision-maker, it is not necessary to normalize evaluation index. In the end, the scheme evaluation of plain chain conveyor was taken for an example to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract: In order to investigate the characteristics of air-velocity field of disk fan used in orchard sprayer, a turbulence model by means of the standard sub-model with appropriate boundary condition was developed and 3-D steady state of air-velocity field of single and double fans was simulated and verified. The results showed that in the distance of 1m to 3m from the double fans center, the velocities of the center region were lower than the both sides, but in the distance of 3m to 5m, the air-velocity distribution of double fans was uniform. The results of comparison showed that the trends of simulated and measured curves were coincident, the correlation determination (R2) of single and double fans were 0.8044 and 0.7957, respectively. The model could accurately predict air-velocity distribution pattern.

Abstract: The typical components and physical/chemical characteristics of the ash were introduced based on the relative research works carried out all around the world, as well as its influences on plants, upper soil layer vegetation, soil microbial population and environment after application. Generally, this kind of ash has low potassium content, but high pH value due to high Ca content. It's a good remedy for acid soil. The high pH value is also valuable for improving composition of soil microorganism, enhancing their activities and thereafter increasing the fertility of soil. Meanwhile, the ash is rich in certain elements, which are critical to modify the elements constitution of soil and increase the availability of N and K in usual situation. As far as current research is concerned, the fertilization of wood ash achieves element circle, improves soil characteristic to some degree.

Abstract: The active speed-tuning control in the process of gearshift can ensure the ideal gear-shifting quality and the driving performance. For parallel and series hybrid electric vehicle (PSHEV), the control is more difficult because of the multi-powers. The active speed-tuning control algorithm used to reduce the impingement of components and the duel-loop control algorithm was presented in this paper. The outer control loop based on the increment PID algorithm controlled the speed error between the active and passive components; the inner control loop based on the fuzzy control logic controlled the regulation of the engine, electric motor and the generator. The online tests on the bench were carried on using the ECU of PSHEV. The test results indicated that the active speed-tuning control algorithm could control the components working harmoniously and ensure a fast and smooth gearshift.

Abstract: Inner gear spinning technology with three rollers was analyzed. According to the material flowing characteristics during spin-forming, two forming quality evaluation factors were put forward and then filling status of gear tooth under different reductions was analyzed. The results indicated that there was an optimum reduction for blank with certain thickness during inner gear spinning. When the reduction was below, the filling status in gear tooth was unsatisfied due to lack of filling material; when the radial reduction was above, the increasing forming force induced by higher reduction would likely decrease the service life of forming tool, and excess relative reduction would result in the status of underfills in the gear tooth.

Abstract: High definition digital images of tobacco leaves were obtained, which were made on removing the background and segmentation processing. All the components of tobacco leaf color, such as red, green, blue and luminance, were calculated, as new indexes quantitatively described the color distribution state of tobacco leaf surface. The box-counting dimension variation curve of every color component was plotted. A hierarchical cluster analysis was performed on tobacco leaf color with fractal dimension as parameter. The results showed that there was obvious difference in the box-counting dimension variation curve of every color component of tobacco leaves from different growing areas. Cluster analysis with fractal dimension as parameter was very well consistent with tobacco grade experts. These results indicated color fractal dimension, as characteristic index of color classification, could more accurately describe the fractal distributed features of image color.

Abstract: NaOH pretreatment of asparagus stalk without fluid water and its anaerobic digestion after pretreatment were performed in order to improve biogas production. Effects of pretreatment time, particle size and NaOH concentration on contents of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin and yield of biogas were investigated in a bench scale anaerobic digester. Results showed that start-up time of test group with pretreatment time of 15-20d was 10d earlier than that of test group without pretreatment. After the asparagus stalk was crumbled and cut, the start-up time of test group without screening was 5-15d earlier than that of groups with different particle size after screening. At the same time, the fermentation time was shortened by 23d. Total biogas yield of test groups using 5% NaOH in pretreatment were 453.82% and 84.58% higher than groups with 10% and 0% NaOH in pretreatment, respectively. After integrated analysis of experimental results, the suitable NaOH pretreatment conditions were determined as follows: NaOH pretreatment of 15-20d, no screening after crumbling and cutting and with NaOH concentration of 5%. Under this kind of pretreatment conditions, methane content of biogas during anaerobic digestion was above 70%, while pH value was above 7.5, which were located in normal range.

Abstract: A particle image velocimetry (PIV) was used to measure the cone-jet flow in electrostatic spray. The mode of spraying was observed. The droplets' velocity and flow vector graphs were analyzed. Streamlines field under different voltages were obtained. The forces acted on the droplets in their transportation and the change of the velocity and flow field were analyzed. The experiment indicated that, with the increasing of voltage, the flow field was distributed uniformly and the droplets' velocity along the axes increased with electrostatic forces, polarization forces and fluid forces together. With the increasing of axes distance, the droplets' velocity in the same section along the radius increased under the same voltage, and the velocity uniformity in the same section improved.

Abstract: In order to investigate the stored rice quality changes and its impact factors, the commercial milled Indica rice was used as the raw material. By using programmable artificial climate chamber, the simulation storage temperature and humidity parameters were set as 15°C without relative humidity (RH) controlling; 15°C, RH 75%; 20°C, RH 65%; 25°C, RH 65%; 30°C, RH 80% and natural storage without temperature and humidity controlling according to the typical average temperature and humidity of China grain storage regions. The gelatinizing characteristic values were periodically determinated, and the results showed that the peak viscosity (PV), final viscosity (FV) and hold viscosity (HV) had a increasing trend as the storage time extended, the change of setback (SB) value was slight in the early storage period, but in the later storage period, the changes in both normal temperature and high temperature storage conditions had increasing trends, while in low temperature or quasi-low temperature storage had decreasing trends. Storage time was significantly correlated with PV, FV and HV respectively. The effects of storage conditions on PV, FV and HV were not significant in the early storage period, but significant in the later storage period.

Abstract: Characteristics of the Aphis gossypii area, background and mixed area (include Aphis gossypii area and background) were analyzed and principle of determining was establish based on the threshold G component. Then Aphis gossypii area and non-Aphis gossypii area were separated using the threshold G component. For the overlapping Aphis gossypii, the input image were marked using the minimum extension transform, then distance transform and watershed algorithm was applied to the marked image, and the overlapping was removed. Experimental results showed that this algorithm could effectively segment the overlapping Aphis gossypii. The sum of over-segmentation rate and under-segmentation rate was 3.14%. The accurate rate was 96.2%, which was higher than the direct counting.

Abstract: In order to increase load capacity and reduce weight, size and vibration level of gear transmission system, a new-style unsymmetric gear with different pressure angles was designed. Modification of pinion geometry could reduce the transmission errors and achieve a more favorable shape for the function of transmission errors. The process of meshing and contact for unsymmetric gear with double pressure angles in case of modified geometry and transmission errors was proposed. Computer programs of tooth contact analysis (TCA) of unsymmetric gear and conventional gear were developed. Two versions of modified geometry were investigated and compared with numerical examples. The results showed that the displacement of contact path of unsymmetric gear was smaller than conventional symmetric gear where alignment errors exist, and the function of transmission errors for unsymmetric gear was indeed a continuous parabolic one with a reduction in magnitude. It was proved that involute gear with unsymmetric tooth could efficiently improve transmission stabilization and load capacity of tooth surface.

Abstract: For a certain engineering vehicle roll in the sloped area, the finite element model and multi-rigid-body model were developed based on the nonlinear finite element method and multi-rigid-body approach, respectively. The dynamic simulations were performed. The deflection and absorbed energy were predicted, the dynamic response and injury risks of the operator during lateral roll were also predicted. Results showed that the roll-over protective structure (ROPS) and energy-absorbing device could prevent the vehicle continuous roll on the slopes with small angles and reduce the plastic deformation of ROPS. The severity of the peak decelerations transferred to the vehicle cabin was also reduced simultaneously.

Abstract: The nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) imaging was proposed to detect the subtle bruises on fruits. Chinese pears were selected as the experimental object. The nuclear magnetic resonance images of pears were acquired by horizontal scanning mode. Image processing, which included auto thresh segmentation, morphologic operation and boundary extraction was finished by Matlab software. At last the corner detection was used to determine whether the pear had subtle bruises. Experimental results showed that detecting subtle bruises on fruits with NMR technique was feasible. The accuracy of detection for subtle bruises and other pears was 92.1% and 100%, respectively.

Abstract: De-coloration rate, polysaccharides holding rate and protein removal rate of eight resins on longan polysaccharides were studied. The results showed that anion exchange resin D301F presented good de-colorizing effects. De-colorizing experiments were carried out by single experiment and orthogonal experiment. The data indicated that the colorants were most possibly small-molecular-weight substances with negative charge. The optimum technological parameters were as follows: the ratio for resin and crude polysaccharides solution (the mass ratio was 4%) was 0.16g/mL under the condition of 50°C and pH value 5. The de-coloration rate was 90.21%, the polysaccharides holding rate was 85.75%, the protein removal rate was 73.12%.

Abstract: In traditional peanut combine harvest, loss rate of peanut in the process of chain rigidity clamping is rather high. Thus, three-belt clamping technology was proposed. Making use of general three-belt flexible clamping cushion to peanut, general three-belt clamping feeding device was developed. Belt type, belt distance, belt speed and so on were determined through bench tests. And according to the field comparative tests to chain rigidity clamping feeding mode, comprehensive evaluation was done on testing index, such as pulling-down peanut drop rate, clamping feeding rate, clamping breaking rate, soil removing rate, straw falling rate, peanut falling rate and so on. The results showed that loss rate of the general three-belt clamping feeding mode was rather low and more suitable for current Chinese peanut harvest situation.

Abstract: Considering the nonlinear characteristic of tire's grounding friction, a polygonal wear model of tire was established based on variable stiffness of lateral. Then the stability of system was analyzed, and the self-excited vibration of tire was proved to be a kind of stable periodic vibration caused by Hopf bifurcation of system. Finally, the ranges of speed and toe-in angle which could motivate self-excited vibration were given through numerical simulation. The results showed that the polygonal wear was a typical nonlinear self-excitation vibration phenomenon caused by the tread's lateral self-excited vibration, and the polygonal number was equivalent to the ratio of the lateral vibration frequency of tire tread to the rotational frequency of tire. This model could explain the formation mechanism of the polygonal wear of tire.

Abstract: Sensory pleasantness evaluation of eighteen vehicle exhaust noises were obtained by paired comparison jury test. Loudness, sharpness, roughness, fluctuation strength and kurtosis were selected for objectively characterizing the sound quality of exhaust noise. The sound quality prediction model of vehicle exhaust noise was established based on back-propagation neural network. Sensory pleasantness of exhaust noise samples were obtained through the prediction model and the results were compared with that obtained through multiple linear regression prediction model. The result showed that the prediction values were close to the measured values, the neural network model was more effective than multiple linear regression model in prediction of individual exhaust noise. The neural network prediction model represented the nonlinear relation between sensory pleasantness and objective parameters exactly and could be used for predicting the sound quality of vehicle exhaust noise.

Abstract: The road adhesion coefficient real-time estimation for vehicle dynamic control was investigated. Firstly, dynamic model of tire for braking was given based on magic formulation. Secondly, the related item to adhesion coefficient of the dynamic model was considered as one extended state of braking system, so extended state observer (ESO) was designed to estimate friction force between roads and tire in real-time based on the velocity of wheel and torque for braking. Adhesion coefficient was deduced. Finally, simulations were performed on uniformity road and varied road. The simulation results showed this method was robust to parameters perturbation of braking system and sensor noise, it could estimate adhesion coefficient exactly in real-time. Observer was separated from controller design.

Abstract: Mill/turn machining center can perform several operations simultaneously with multiple spindles and power turrets, which means worksteps sequencing should be integrated with scheduling. According to the characteristics of mill/turn machining center, an improved genetic algorithm to optimize worksteps sequence was proposed. A 01 mixed integer programming model was set up to support the algorithm with object function and constraints. In order to present so many parameters of the 01 mixed integer programming model, coding strategy was developed based on data structure instead of integer or symbol. According to the similarity of genes, two novel genetic operators named multi-probability crossover operator and multi-probability mutation operator were also introduced. Consequently, these genetic operators insure that chromosomes consisted of genes with more similarity could transmit their characteristics to next generation with higher probability. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm was verified by a real case using dual spindles and twin power turrets mill/turn machining center. The results also indicated that the improved genetic algorithm gained a better performance than the conventional genetic algorithm.

Abstract: The performances of pulsed jet on-off valve based on giant magnetostrictive actuator(GMA) are affected by structure parameters of actuator. The physical model between flux and driving current of the valve was built, and their relationship was simulated by Matlab. The response of different parameters, such as number of solenoids, eddy current time constant, effective mass of actuator, effect on the valve flux in frequency domain and time domain were analyzed respectively. The trends of flux with actuator parameters were abstracted from the simulation results. The eddy current time constant was the main factor which confirmed by experiments. To enlarge the response frequency band and shorten the response time, the number of the solenoid and the eddy current time constant should be decreased.

Abstract: Appearance quality grading for fresh corn ear was implemented by computer vision based on HSI color model. Bare tip position was detected and removed using projection method. Defects of fresh corn ear were identified by the first order differential operation on H. Characteristic parameters of appearance quality, such as defect proportion, ear length, ear maximum diameter, aspect ratio and rectangle factor were obtained. General regression neural network with five characteristic parameters as input was developed for grading. Experiment showed that average errors of bare tip position, ear length and ear maximum diameter were 2.27mm, 1.96mm and 0.54mm, respectively. Mistake rate of defect proportion was 3.00%, and grading average ratio was up to 95.91%.

Abstract: The effects of the air velocity in heat exchanging pipes to heat and water vapor transformation was conducted in double-film covering greenhouse and the rational running mode was presented. The temperature and humidity in inlet and outlet of heat exchanging pipes, floor temperature in heat storage greenhouse and outside temperature were measured at different air velocities in the heat exchanging pipes. The humidity ratio, enthalpy of inlet and outlet of heat exchanging pipes and the power for heat saving were calculated. The results showed that the enthalpy of hot air decrease apparently after flowing through heat exchanging pipes when the air velocity in heat exchanging pipes was respectively 0.6m/s, 1.0m/s, 1.5m/s, 2.0m/s, 2.5m/s and 2.8m/s during heat saving in clear day. In addition, the air enthalpy difference between inlet and outlet of heat exchanging pipes and its variation tendency were similar at different air velocities. The power for heat saving enhances with the increase of the air velocity in heat exchanging pipes. The power and the increase of floor temperature held lower when the air velocity in heat exchanging pipes was less than 2m/s during heat storage. The appropriate air velocity in heat exchanging pipes was 2.5m/s to 2.8m/s, and the rational time for heat saving was 10:30 to 14:30.

Abstract: In order to solve that the large energy consumption and unstable sowing-performance of air-suction cylindrical, orthogonal test and regression analysis were applied to research the relative pressure and suction-hole velocity that influenced the sowing-performance mainly. Variance analysis of the experiment results defined the influencing regularity and the optimization of the factors. Experimental results indicated that the sowing-performance became worse quickly with the increasing of suction-hole velocity, but became better with the increasing of relative pressure. The optimization of the two factors was the suction-hole velocity of 0.38m/s and the relative pressure of -4.5kPa. Under such working conditions, the single seed index was 98.67%, the synthetical rate of seed was 99.00%, the multiples index was 0.67%, and the miss index was 0.67%, so the seed-metering device could satisfy the demand for precision seeding.
